Privacy Policy

How this independent UK initiative collects, uses and protects your personal information, the third-party services we use, and your rights over your data.

Who we are

Last updated: 10 August 2026

Data controller: Michael Everett, operating Life After Change. Contact: info@lifeafterchange.org.

Life After Change is an independent UK initiative and is not currently a registered charity.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to operate safely: the email address you register with, the display name you choose, and the content you post in the community. We never publish your legal name.

When you submit an enquiry, referral, safeguarding concern or newsletter request, we keep the details you provide (such as your name, email address, organisation and message) so we can respond and keep a record.

Why we collect it

Account information (email address, display name) is used to operate your account and keep the community secure. Forum posts and replies are stored so the community works and can be moderated. Contact, referral, volunteer and safeguarding submissions are stored so we can read, respond to and keep a record of them. Newsletter sign-ups are stored so we can send occasional Life After Change emails; you can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not sell data, share it for marketing, or use advertising trackers.

Third-party services we use

PocketBase, self-hosted on our web hosting, stores accounts, forum content and form submissions. Hostinger provides the website hosting.

If, and only if, you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) and Ahrefs Web Analytics. These are not loaded at all unless you accept them, and rejecting analytics does not affect any website feature. We do not claim this analytics data is anonymous.

Cookies and consent

Essential storage keeps you signed in and keeps the site secure; it is required for the site to function. Optional analytics cookies are only set after you choose "Accept analytics" in our cookie banner.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page, and by clearing cookies in your browser. If you reject analytics, no analytics script is loaded.

Data retention

We keep account and community content for as long as your account remains open. Enquiry, referral, newsletter and safeguarding records are kept while they remain relevant to responding, record-keeping and our safeguarding responsibilities. We have not yet set fixed retention periods for each record type; this section will be updated with specific periods once they are formally decided.

Sharing and safeguarding

We do not sell or rent your data. We may share information with the police or a local authority without consent where there is a risk of harm to any person, including a child, as part of our safeguarding duties.

Children

This website is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. The community is for adults maintaining behaviour change.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time, subject to information we are legally required to retain for safeguarding purposes. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@lifeafterchange.org.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
